TEEN THERAPY

During our teen years we are faced with much transition and change, both practically and physically. Along with navigating new social dynamics and more demanding academics, teens also become more aware of family situations. As this awareness grows teens become more impacted by their individual relationships as well any conflicts happening between others, and it is so important they are able to express their emotions safely through this challenging stage of life.

As we enter the middle ground between child and adulthood there is tension between still needing guidance and care, while also desiring to having independence and freedom. Even teens with the most present and supportive adults benefit from having a space outside of their social and family circles to figure out what they are feeling, who they are, and how to relate to others. From handling a divorce, to social anxiety, to simply fearing the future, therapy can help support any difficulty a teen may face.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

As mentioned above, it is very important that teens have a space in which they are able to process their lives, and express their emotions knowing they are safe to do so. When working with teens I look to create that secure confidential space, while also helping them to advocate and communicate to caretakers how they need support when appropriate.

Using talk therapy, teens will be able to explore their internal worlds freely without judgment, and receive support on how to be their fullest and healthiest selves. And when it is difficult to find the right words, creative expression and sand tray therapy can also be used during sessions to process through difficult situations and feelings.

HOW CAN TEEN THERAPY HELP?

While therapy is often crucial for teens who have undergone some of form trauma, many teens need a safe place to process and work through any transition, social, or emotional difficulty they might be facing.

WHY SHOULD MY TEEN DO THERAPY?

It"s never too early to heal and benefit from counseling! Most relational and emotional struggles individuals have as adults relate back to what they experienced, and didn"t have a chance to resolve when they were developing through childhood and adolescents!
